Short version
Gravus is for fitness tracking and education only. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Calorie targets, pace, BMI, and body-composition figures are estimates. Talk to a qualified professional before changing diet or training. You are responsible for your health choices.
Full disclaimer
Not a medical product
Gravus (“the app”) is a consumer fitness log. It is not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Nothing in the app is a clinical protocol.
We are not your doctor, dietitian, physiotherapist, or coach. Gravus App Operator is not holding out medical expertise by publishing Gravus.
Estimates, not prescriptions
The app may show, among other things:
- Estimated maintenance calories, deficits, and surpluses
- Protein and other planning targets
- Weight “forecast” dates
- BMI and body-fat estimates (including tape / U.S. Navy-style calculations, calipers, or figures you type from a DEXA report)
- Energy from Apple Health (active and dietary) when you grant read access
These depend on the data you (and Health) provide and on simplified formulas. They can be inaccurate for your age, sex, hormones, medications, disability, sport, or measurement error. Do not treat a number in Gravus as a lab result or a meal plan written for you.
Sources (formulas)
Citations for App Store Guideline 1.4.1. Same list as in the Gravus app (Estimates & sources sheet, opened via ⓘ on Goals → Your daily plan and Progress → BMI / Energy budget):
- Mifflin–St Jeor (1990) — Resting calories (BMR) and maintenance (TDEE) from sex, age, height, weight, and activity.
- WHO BMI categories — Underweight, normal, overweight, and obese bands on Progress.
- ISSN protein position stand — Daily protein target uses about 1 g per lb of current body weight as a training planning heuristic.
- Hodgdon & Beckett (1984) — Navy circumference — Optional tape body-fat estimate (neck / waist / hip). Open-access paper reprints the U.S. Navy circumference equations from the 1984 Naval Health Research Center reports.
- Wishnofsky rule (~7,700 kcal/kg) — Pace and weight forecast use ~7,700 kcal ≈ 1 kg (≈3,500 kcal/lb) as a planning conversion — a classic approximation, not a clinical prescription.
These are planning heuristics, not clinical advice.
Restrictive eating and body composition
Cut / bulk / recomp phases and “fast” paces can imply large calorie gaps. Aggressive restriction is not appropriate for everyone and can be harmful, including if you have a history of disordered eating, are underweight, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under 18, or have a medical condition.
If logging weight, calories, or body fat is becoming compulsive or distressing, stop using those features and seek professional help.
Apple Health
If you connect Apple Health, Gravus reads selected samples to display progress. Health data from other apps is only as good as those apps. Gravus does not verify that a calorie total is complete or that a workout is safe for you.
No guaranteed outcomes
We do not guarantee fat loss, muscle gain, PRs, or any body-composition result. The App Store listing and paywall must not promise medical or guaranteed aesthetic outcomes. Tracking is not the same as coaching.
Your responsibility
You agree that you use Gravus at your own risk and that you will not rely on it as a substitute for professional care. To the extent the law allows, Gravus App Operator is not liable for injury, illness, or other outcomes from following estimates or from training you log in the app. Mandatory consumer rights in your country still apply.
Emergency
If you think you are having a medical emergency, contact local emergency services. Do not use Gravus for that.
